I am in the process of a MAJOR site overhaul! I was re-doing my navigation and realized there are a FEW of my main posts that's could use some updating! After all it has BEEN a year now... There will be a FEW key elements changes to enhance navigation and user friendliness. My goal is to REACH out not make it difficult... I swear right now if you were to look up the definition of "behind" you would see me. I wish I could say it was a bad thing, but in a LOT of ways it's a REALLY good thing! It can't even begin to describe what life since the new year has been like... a few words I COULD use: crazy, BUSY, Amazing, and FOCUSED. Just to randomly name a few.

The new year brought on such a big change in not only my personal development but it Re:CHARGED my drive and rejuvenated my spirit! It may seem like I have been MIA on my blog but my Facebook page has been going CRAZY.. I am LOVING it but it's time to get back to work. I have gotten lots of new team training and templates created for my Coaches. I am pretty excited about our future growth and that's where a majority of my time has been spent this month: laying the foundation for success!

I have also been laying a foundation for my NEW physically reaching my goals. I admit I have been slacking in some aspects and it is starting to show. I am about to turn 34 in May, and want to make sure that this is the YEAR I really go out and get it. Like I said before... Last year I let the change in... this year I am FULLY embracing it. It's ALL or nothing for me so I decided to STEP it up... Many MANY many YEARS ago I said I WOULD never run again (unless it would save my life LOL)... see my Dad kind "pushed" me into track and cross country in high school... I have hated running ever since! WELL I guess times have changed because I just registered for my first 5k and I am SCARED!

Starting MONDAY (yes TOMORROW) I will be doing another FULL round of Insanity but I will also be adding in some weight training and couch to 5k... YES I will become a runner again, I registered and committed, MAY 25th I will be there... Talk about kicking off 34 with a BANG!!

Clean Eating 101

Eating clean is simply the practice of avoiding processed and refined foods and basing your diet on whole foods. But there’s much more to this plan. You can structure your diet to get proper nutrition, help manage diseases, avoid developing diseases in the first place, lose weight, remove toxins, and just feel better.

The Basic Principles of Eating Clean
Eating clean involves not only choosing the right foods to eat but also avoiding all of the junk foods and processed foods that are so readily available. The keys to good health and proper nutrition are in the following principles:

  • Eat whole foods: Whole foods are foods that haven’t been tampered with, in the lab or the manufacturing plant. The foods you eat on this plan are straight from the farm: whole fruits and vegetables, whole grains, grass-fed and free-range meats, low fat dairy products, unsalted nuts, and seeds.
  • Avoid processed foods: Processed foods are any food that has a label. A label means that more than one ingredient was used to make that food. You don’t have to eliminate all processed foods (like whole grain pasta or natural cheeses), but if you can’t pronounce an ingredient on a label, don’t put that food in your shopping basket.
  • Eliminate refined sugar. Refined sugar provides nothing but calories. Other sweeteners can be used, but with all the good foods you add to your diet, refined sugar really has very little place in the eating clean plan.
  • Eat five or six small meals a day. By eating smaller meals throughout the day you can help rev up your metabolism and reduce the chance that you’ll eat some Funyuns rather than that whole grain cracker with nut butter and strawberries. You never get so hungry on this plan that you’ll feel deprived or feel the need to cheat.
  • Cook your own meals. Instead of buying meals in a box, cook meals from scratch. That’s not as hard as it sounds! Clean, whole foods need little preparation beyond chopping and sautéing to make satisfying, delicious meals your family will love.
  • Combine protein with carbs. When you do snack or eat a meal, make sure that meal is balanced. For the most satisfaction from your diet, and so you’ll be less tempted to eat junk food, combine protein with carbs or carbs and fat. This simple act will fuel your body and quash hunger pangs.

How Whole Foods and Eating Clean Help You Stay Healthy
What you eat really does have an effect on how you feel. Eating whole foods and avoiding junk food — a clean eating lifestyle — can keep you healthy or help you regain your health if you haven't been well. Follow these precepts and you will have a better chance at living an active life:

  • It’s easier to maintain a healthy weight, which reduces the risk of several diseases.
  • Eating a good variety of foods ensures you get adequate amounts of most essential nutrients.
  • Relying on whole foods is the best way to get a good combination of micronutrients.
  • Whole foods keep you satisfied longer so you’re less tempted by junk foods.
  • Foods high in micronutrients can help reduce cholesterol levels and regulate blood sugar.
  • There are some nutrients we haven’t yet identified that are present in whole foods but not in supplements.
  • Whole foods help keep your digestive system regular.
  • Eating a healthy diet makes you stronger so you can stay more active.
  • Avoiding artificial ingredients keeps your cells strong so your body systems work efficiently.
  • If you feel good, you’re more likely to take care of yourself in other ways.


Spicing Up Your Meals When Eating Clean
Healthy food has an undeserved reputation for being boring or bland. Whole, fresh foods are actually delicious on their own, with no added seasoning. Unfortunately, many of us have been jaded by too much sodium, sugar, and additives in our food. But there are healthy ways to add flavor to clean foods. Here are some herbs and spices you can use in your daily cooking:

  • Basil: This bright-green delicate leaf contains flavonoids that act as powerful antioxidants. It’s also high in vitamins A and K and has a good amount of potassium and manganese. You can grow basil plants on a sunny windowsill throughout the year or grow it in your garden and preserve it by freezing or drying it. Use peppery and minty basil in tomato sauces, salad dressings, pesto, sandwich spreads, soups, and chicken, beef, pork, and fish dishes.
  • Marjoram: This fragrant herb contains many phytochemicals — including terpenes, which are anti-inflammatory — lutein, and beta carotene. Plus, it has lots of vitamin C and vitamin D. Marjoram is delicious in any dish made using beef and is perfect with vegetables like tomatoes, peas, carrots, and spinach. Together with bay leaf, parsley, thyme, and tarragon, it makes a bouquet garni to use in stews and soups.
  • Mint: Mothers used to offer mint to kids for upset stomachs because it soothes an irritated GI tract. But did you know it may be a weapon against cancer, too? It contains a phytochemical called perillyl alcohol, which can stop the formation of some cancer cells. Mint is a good source of beta carotene, folate, and riboflavin. Use it in teas, in desserts, as part of a fruit salad or lettuce salad, or as a garnish for puddings.
  • Oregano: Used in Italian dishes, this strong herb is a potent antioxidant with the phytochemicals lutein and beta carotene. It’s a good source of iron, fiber, calcium, vitamin C, vitamin A, and omega-3 fatty acids. Who knew that spaghetti sauce could be so good for you? Add spicy and pepper oregano to salad dressings, soups, sauces, gravies, meat dishes, and pork recipes.
  • Parsley: Do you ever wonder what’s happened to all the parsley garnish that has been left on plates in restaurants over the years? If only people knew then how healthy it really is! This mild and leafy herb is an excellent source of vitamin C, iron, calcium, and potassium. Plus, it’s packed with flavonoids, which are strong antioxidants, and folate, which can help reduce the risk of heart disease. Use it in everything from salads as a leafy green to rice pilafs, grilled fish, and sauces and gravies.
  • Rosemary: Rosemary contains terpenes, which slow down free radical development and stop inflammation. Terpenes may also block some estrogens, which cause breast cancer. Use this pungent and piney herb in soups, stews, meat, and chicken dishes. Chop some fresh rosemary to roast a chicken, cook with lamb or beef, or mix with olive oil for a dip for warm whole-wheat bread.
  • Sage: Sage contains the flavonoid phytochemicals apigenin and luteolin and some phenolic acids that act as anti-inflammatory agents and antioxidants. Perhaps sage’s most impressive effect may be against Alzheimer’s disease by inhibiting the increase in AChE inhibitors. Its dusky, earthy aroma and flavor are delicious in classic turkey stuffing (as well as the turkey itself), spaghetti sauces, soups and stews, and frittatas and omelets.
  • Tarragon: This herb tastes like licorice with a slightly sweet flavor and is delicious with chicken or fish. It’s a great source of phytosterols and can reduce the stickiness of platelets in your blood. Tarragon is rich in beta carotene and potassium, too. Use it as a salad green or as part of a salad dressing or mix it with Greek yogurt to use as an appetizer dip.
  • Thyme: This herb is a good source of vitamin K, manganese, and the monoterpene thymol, which has antibacterial properties and may help protect against tumor development. It’s fresh, slightly minty, and lemony tasting, making it a great addition to everything from egg dishes to pear desserts to recipes featuring chicken and fish.
  • Cinnamon: The aroma of cinnamon is one of the most enticing in cooking; just the smell can help improve brain function! It can also reduce blood sugar levels, LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and overall cholesterol levels. Cinnamaldehyde, an organic compound in cinnamon (go figure!), prevents clumping of blood platelets, and other compounds in this spice are anti-inflammatory. Add cinnamon to coffee and tea, use it in desserts and curries, and sprinkle some on oatmeal for a great breakfast.
  • Cloves: These flower buds are a great source of manganese and omega-3 fatty acids. They contain eugenol, which helps reduce toxicity from pollutants and prevent joint inflammation, and the flavonoids kaempferol and rhamnetin, which act as antioxidants. Cloves are a great addition to hot tea and coffee as well as many dessert recipes, including fruit compote and apple desserts.
  • Cumin: This spice is rich in antioxidants, which may help reduce the risk of cancer. It also has iron and manganese, which help keep your immune system strong and healthy. Add cumin to Middle Eastern recipes, rice pilafs, stir-fried vegetables, and Tex-Mex dishes.
  • Nutmeg: Nutmeg is rich in calcium, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, and vitamins A and C. It can help reduce blood pressure, acts as an antioxidant, and has antifungal properties. The lacy covering on nutmeg is used to make mace. Keep a whole nutmeg in a tiny jar along with a mini rasp to grate it fresh into dishes with spinach, add it to hot tea, use it in curry powder, and add it to rice pudding and other desserts.
  • Turmeric: This spice is one of the healthiest foods on the planet. Curcumin, a phytochemical in turmeric, can stop cancer cells from reproducing and spreading, slow Alzheimer’s disease progression, and help control weight. In fact, researchers are currently studying curcumin as a cancer fighter, painkiller, and antiseptic. Turmeric gives foods a pretty yellow color and is an inexpensive substitute for saffron. Use it in Indian foods, egg salads, sauces, tea, and fish and chicken recipes.

Clean Eating Snacks

One of the most common questions I get is CLEAN eating... "How do I do it" and "what should I be eating". Clean eating is not a diet, it's more of a lifestyle change where you consume whole natural foods: Whole grains, lean proteins, LOTS of veggies, healthy fats, and fruits. You start out by eating a hour after you wake and then every 2-3 hours after that, so that you are consuming 5-6 small meals each day. Not only will cleaning up your diet help you lose weight it will also improve your health by eliminating all the processed foods, and the things your body does not need.

Today I want to talk about snacks...

Snacks should be a balance of complex carbohydrates, lean protein, and healthy fats. It’s all about choices: Salsa instead of sour cream, sodium-free pretzels instead of chips, Greek yogurt instead of sugary yogurt, plain, air-popped popcorn instead of buttery or oily popcorn. Make it convenient, small, and satiating while low in fat, sugar, and sodium. Prepare ahead and bring your snacks with you when you leave the house.

You can use the following list as pre- or post-workout snacks, mini-meals, between-meal snacks, or evening snacks. Control the portions of your snacks just as you would your main meals.

For each snack below, choose one protein and one complex carbohydrate. This combination gives you both short-term and long-lasting energy.

Progress NOT Perfection

This week has DEFINITELY been one of progress on more than just one level. I honestly don't think my inner "over achiever" really thought this one through. Adding weights, C25K, and my burpee challenge on top of Insanity is complete MADNESS! Clearly I did not think this all the way out hahaha.

#OperationBEASTmode had been a complete success. Even through it has been CRAZY challenging and will continue to be I am pretty excited about my progress. Week 1 has officially wrapped up and I am still standing.. a TAD on the sore side but still standing! I have managed to keep up with my workouts, catch up on my documents, and I was even the speaker on my team call this week! Talk about pressure hahaha... Lets just say out started out shaky but I managed to pull it together in the end. I am actually even thinking about starting my own team calls/webinars soon! We shall see :)

Insanity is going great, I  have only done it a zillion times now.... hahaha just kidding, kinda! This time I am really focusing on my form and concentrating on really get the max results out of each move. I am finding that adding the couch to 5k and even weights has not been as tricky as I thought it would be. I have been doing the running at night and I think it's a great way to cap out my day. Funny just a year ago I said I would only run to save my life. Insanity has really made me enjoy it.

My goal for this month is to get a good one mile time! I think with the combination of my burpee challenge, Insanity, weight training... AND this couch to 5k there is no reason I shouldn't be able to push myself to get a decent 1 mile time. Color me Rad is May 25th so I have a little time.

What is a Coach? EXPOSING the TRUTH about Beachbody

If you have ever worked out with a beachbody program or posted on one of the Beachbody Program facebook fan pages you probably have been approached by coach asking you to join their support groups,  or Challenge groups. They ask you to make them your coach and may even try to spark your interest in coaching by asking [GENERICALLY] "how would you like to get paid to get fit?". But what's it all really about? I'm going to break it all down for you and EXPOSE what I have learned after being a coach for a year.

What I do as a coach might not be the same as another, never assume all coaches are created equal. We all have our own strengths and struggles. Some coaches are on hand and present while others can take days just to get a message or email back to you. There are good coaches, BAD coaches, and AMAZING coaches.... you just have to find one that is the right fit for you.

When I first signed up with a Coach I did so unknowingly. I was sent a link to take the Beachbody challenge and that is how I first joined. Little did I know that number on the end of the link was in fact making that person my coach. Let's just say I have had quite a few bad coaches and made several coaches changes to get where I am today. That's why I say not all coaches are created equal and not all coaches are in it for the right reasons.

I am passionate about Coaching because I was that person at rock bottom. My life was out of control... I was unhappy, depressed, and lacked any confidence. I have never been that fit girl... but for the first time I am getting there!


What is a Beachbody Coach?

A Beachbody Coach is someone who firmly believes in the effectiveness of Beachbody products; whether thats Shakeology, P90X, Turbofie, whatever it may be, Beachbody Coaches firmly believe that you can see positive results through the use of Beachbody products.

Anyone can be a Beachbody Coach if you’ve got the desire to help others change their lives for the better and make steps towards positive health and fitness goals! Beachbody Coaches are the defining factor between “making it” and “giving up.”.

But it's not just that. I will not sign just anyone for my team. This is truly an opportunity NOT a get rich scheme. In my last post I talked about how I created a page on facebook to in a way hide what I was doing and my excitement for it... I had to delete that page when I became a coach due to "name issues". I say this because that page had OVER 1200 fans... and that was JUST me SHARING my passion selling NOTHING. People want to see real, they want to see success and struggle NOT perfection. Being a coach or even an affiliate on my team means being REAL, raw, and FAR from perfect. We are positive, motivational, and not afraid to admit when we don't know some thing.

A team Revolution Coach understands when something doesn't work you change it, but you share your struggle, no one is perfect.  I read a quote one time... "not everyone is a dancer, not everyone is a yogi, not everyone is a runner, it's all about finding your fit". Well it's OFFICIAL... I am a Team Beachbody Diamond Coach!! It may have taken me longer to get here than I thought it would BUT wow what a ride.

This past year has represented a time of "self discovery". I knew when I started this journey would change and shape me but I never fully understood how deep it would impact my life and how much meaning it would have. What once started out as me getting into shape has turned into something remarkable!

I am blessed to be a stay at home mom, who works from home. Who's not strapped to a 9-5 job that I hate. I LOVE having fun, helping people and knowing I can work when I want to work! I am just your average mom and wife... with AMAZING goals and desire to pay off debt and live the life of our dreams! I'm going FULL SPEED ahead in 2013 and am looking for DRIVEN, motivated, wants more out of life people (men & women) to join forces with me!




Get off your A$$: Learning to "SELF Motivate"

What is the best way to STAY motivated?? How do you stick with a program??? It's simple.... you want it enough to motivate yourself! It's called self motivation.


My 8 Steps

1. Start simple. Keep motivators around your work area – things that give you that initial spark to get going.

2. Keep good company. Make more regular encounters with positive and motivated people. This could be as simple as IM chats with peers or a quick discussion with a friend who likes sharing ideas.

3. Keep learning. Read and try to take in everything you can. The more you learn, the more confident you become in starting projects.

4. Stay Positive. See the good in bad. When encountering obstacles, you want to be in the habit of finding what works to get over them.

5. Stop thinking. Just do. If you find motivation for a particular project lacking, try getting started on something else. Something trivial even, then you’ll develop the momentum to begin the more important stuff.

6. Know yourself. Keep notes on when your motivation sucks and when you feel like a superstar. There will be a pattern that, once you are aware of, you can work around and develop.

7. Track your progress. Keep a tally or a progress bar for ongoing projects. When you see something growing you will always want to nurture it.

8. Help others. Share your ideas and help friends get motivated. Seeing others do well will motivate you to do the same. Write about your success and get feedback from readers.

What I would hope happens here is you will gradually develop certain skills that become motivational habits.

DIY Parallettes

Your probably wondering "What is a Parallette?" and what can I use it for?!? I know that's what I was thinking when I first heard of them. Yesterday one of my coaches told me she was making these and it peaked my interest! After spending a LOT of time on google and youtube I decided YES I have to have my OWN set! I love having a diverse selection of equipment and LOVE me a good DIY project.

In this post I will share with you what parallettes are, what you can use them for, and how you can make your own for dirt cheap!

Parallettes are a gymnastics tool that simulate parallel bars — which are similar to dip bars. You can use a pair of parallettes to to wallstands, handstands, dips, ab exercises, and tons of other weird, gymnast stunts.

How to Kick low self-esteem to the CURB! Ten proven methods to help you boost your low self-esteem today. No B.S. here, just ten sure-fire techniques to help you get started on beating low self-esteem today.

1. Create an Awareness of Where the Low Self-Esteem Originates From. Often it is a single turning point, or a series of events in our lives that contribute to us having detrimental self-esteem. Identify these moments and write them out, no matter how painful or uncomfortable reliving the experience makes you feel. The first step in combating low self-esteem is destroying its root – and in this case it is those initial events. Once you know where these beliefs are coming from, you can begin to challenge them.

2. Write Out How You Would Like Others to View You As. Now that you have a better idea of what type of person you want to present to the world, can you honestly say that you are acting inaccordance with this vision of yourself? Are the habits, actions and interactions with people reflective of this vision of yourself? Write out the actions, behaviours and methods of interaction with others that truly reflects the person you want to be.

3. Master Self-Talk. Think back to the last time you stumbled, hit a roadblock or outright failed. What were the first things you said to yourself in your mind? If you are like most people who live with undisciplined thoughts, the thoughts probably carried the tone of something this: “I’m no good.” “I don’t deserve it.” “I’ll never achieve anything worthwhile.” This negative self-talk will powerfully reinforce low self-esteem. But just like self-esteem, changing the conversation you are having with yourself is an adjustable process. In YourGoalBook I outline 4 powerful techniques you can use to immediately put negative self-talk to bed for good.

4. Build Goals. The quickest way for you to shatter low self-esteem is through the act of accomplishing goals. When you set a goal, follow a plan, and then achieve it, you reinforce all of the good thoughts you have about yourself. You create confidence, motivation to do bigger and better things, and your self-image drastically improves. Set all sorts of goals, small, medium, and long term, and ruthlessly chase them.

5. Perfection is a Myth– So Don’t Compare Yourself to Others. Look, nobody is perfect. Nobody.

We all have pain, and we all have suffering in various degrees. There is no such thing as the perfect life, so don’t for a second imagine that it is realistic, or that someone else has it while you will never have it. Instead, choose to follow your dreams and goals and focus on achieving things.

6. Redefine Failure. People with low self-esteem see failure as an affirmation of their low self-worth. Failure in its truest form is the act of giving up. Failure is not struggling, it’s not hitting a roadblock. Failure comes only when you refuse to work your way past the struggles and setbacks in your journey to your best life.

7. Take Care of Yourself. We get one body, so treat it like the temple that it is! Not only will you live longer and significantly healthier, but you will also feel exponentially better about yourself.

8. Be Assertive. You can do this without being overbearing or arrogant. Often times those with low self-esteem tend to be push-overs. Learn to say no once and a while and you will find people will start viewing you with more respect. Once you establish clear boundaries for your life it signals that you value your time and youself.

9. Support Others in the Pursuit of Their Dream Life. Giving back does so many things; it creates a feeling of positive self-worth, gives you purpose that is greater than yourself, and it gives you an opportunity to show the world what you have to offer.

10. Surround Yourself with Positive People. Are the people in your life fostering your low self-esteem, or do they want to see you living a more positive, productive life? Be brutally honest here – often times it is too difficult to cut loose those negative influences and enablers.

Ready to GET CLEAN?

The biggest part of long term weight loss success and creating a health lifestyle is CLEANING up your diet. Sounds easy right? WELL maybe not as much as you think. We are living in the age of "convenience" food. Most people THINK they eat fairly well but they are still consuming a LOT of junk. Simplified, eating clean means stripping your diet of nutritionally meaningless foods. This means no fatty, fried, processed, sugary stuff. It's all about WHOLE natural FOODS.


HOW TO START EATING CLEAN:

  • Stop eating anything fried, sugary, and processed
  • Start eating a ton more veggies and lean protein
  • Eat things in their whole form! Fresh fruits, veggies, real meat (not patties, chicken nuggets, hot dogs etc.)
  • Replace refined carbs (like white rice) with whole grains (brown rice, quinoa)
  • Drink tons and tons of water to stay hydrated
  • Eat 5-6 times a day. If this is not possible, it is ok to do 3 a day, but just make sure each meal is balanced
  • Make and take meals WITH you so you can AVOID temptation
  • PLAN ahead, prep your meals in advance!
